Pharmacies are required to report data at least every seven (7) days.


Pharmacies must post an
Advisory Notice to customers.

Controlled substance data is to have been reported retroactive to July 1, 2008. The deadline for reporting this data was March 31, 2009.

Report of Controlled Substances Dispensed

At least once each week, every pharmacist-manager of a pharmacy licensed by the Vermont Board of Pharmacy, including those located outside of Vermont, shall submit a Report of Controlled Substances Dispensed to the VMPS database of all reportable prescriptions dispensed from the pharmacy to a patient in Vermont in the immediately preceding seven (7) days.

RxSentry® Dispenser’s Implementation Guide

The RxSentry® Dispenser’s Implementation Guide is a step-by-step implementation and training tool for dispensers to use for reporting Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances.

Health Information Designs (HID) will implement its RxSentry® System to meet the requirements for the Vermont Prescription Monitoring System for a database that acquires and maintains individual patient records of all Schedules II, III and IV drug dispensed by pharmacies licensed by the Vermont Board of Pharmacy.

Notice to be Posted

Pharmacies must post the following notice:

This notice advises customers picking up a prescription for controlled substances, that the prescription information will be entered into the VPMS database.
