CME on Opioid Prescribing
The Vermont Board of Medical Practice is pleased to announce that a CME event on Safe and Effective Opioid Prescribing for Chronic Pain will be offered to Vermont practitioners on March 31, 2011. The course is being presented in partnership with the Boston University School of Medicine and with assistance from the Vermont Medical Society. It will be held at the Sheraton Burlington beginning at 7:30 a.m. and running until early afternoon. The course will qualify for 5 AMA Category 1 Credits**. The fee of $75 will include course materials, continental breakfast, and refreshment breaks. The faculty from BU has presented a similar course on several occasions in Massachusetts and it has been very well received. The course will explore clinical issues surrounding treatment of pain and drug dependence, as well as covering proper assessment, monitoring, and documentation techniques to assist providers. A practical framework for making decisions about treating with opioids will also be presented. In addition to covering those universal concepts that apply to the topic, the course will cover some Vermont-specific issues and will include a panel discussion with both Vermont and federal regulators and law enforcement officials. Online registration will be available in early February. Sign up early. The course will be open to Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners. Please tell your colleagues about this valuable learning opportunity and watch for more information about how to sign up. As soon registration is available, a link will be posted on this page.
